Shirley Austin

Shirley Austin, 83, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on July 21, 2021.

Shirley was born on July 15, 1938 in Patterson, New York to George and Lillian (Tompkins) Hudson. She married the love of her life, Lester Austin, on May 14, 1960 at Mt Carmel Baptist Church in Carmel, NY. Shirley and Lester were blessed with three children.

She was a Real Estate Agent and worked for Caldwell Banker in Kent, NY. Shirley was a devoted mother and she took great pride in taking care of her family. Spending time with her family, especially her nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren, was her favorite thing to do. She had the distinct honor of having been Miss Patterson in 1958 and Miss Putnam County in 1958 and 1959. Shirley had many interests and was very active. She loved crocheting, gardening, square dancing, listening to country music, having tag sales, volunteering at the local fire department and being a member of the Prayer Team at Guidepost.

She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Shirley is predeceased by her beloved husband, Lester Austin, who passed away in 2008. She is also predeceased by her sister Linda Alexander.

She is survived by her much loved children, Dr. Kyle Austin and his wife Cynthia, Trina Goutremout and Sherilyn Lobb. She is also survived by her nine cherished grandchildren, Tirza, Vawn Scott II, Lydia, Crystal, Abigail, Adam, Eden, Berith and Tanner along with her four cherished great grandchildren, Pearl, Vawn Scott III, Alexander and Jackson.

Her dear companion, Daniel Turner and sister, Nancy Bohlin, also survive her.

A visitation will be held on Monday, July 26, 2021 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Cargain Funeral Homes Inc., 10 Fowler Ave., Carmel, NY. 10512.

A Service to honor and celebrate Shirley’s life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at Cargain Funeral Home in Carmel, NY.

Shirley will be brought to her final resting place alongside her husband Lester at Raymond Hill Cemetery in Carmel, NY.
