Rose Campanella of Mahopac, NY passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at the age of 85. She was born in Avelino, Italy on July 9, 1936, the daughter of Nicola and Antonia (Stiso) Balascio.
Rose came to the United States with her parents at 3 months of age, where they settled in Bronx, NY. She graduated from Grace Dodge High School in the Bronx in 1954 and in 1963 she married her husband, Anthony Campanella at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, also in the Bronx.
Later, Rose and Anthony moved their family to Mohegan Lake, NY and then to Mahopac in 1977. Following a career as a bank teller at Bank of America in Katonah, NY she embarked on a new career working as a bus monitor for special needs children in the Mahopac Central School District. She worked there for many years until she retired at the age of 80.
Rose was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church in Mahopac where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.
She is survived by her daughter, Michele Ean and her husband Bruce of Mahopac; her son Anthony and his wife, Lisa of Danbury, CT; her son-in-law Billy O’Brien; her grandchildren, Gina, Anthony, Philip, Jake and Christopher and her step grandchildren, Randy, Mackenzie and Riley.
She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony in 1995 and her daughter, Nicole O’Brien in 2017.
Visiting will be held on Sunday, January 30 from 1-5 pm at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 31 at 10 am at St. John the Evangelist Church, Mahopac with interment to follow at Raymond Hill Cemetery, Carmel, NY.
