9/11/1940 – 8/6/2022
Robert A. Erickson, Sr. of Mahopac, NY passed away peacefully on August 6, 2022 at the age of 81. He was born in Peekskill, NY on September 11, 1940 to the late Elaine “Dottie” Erickson.
Robert was raised by his grandfather Peter and his aunt Elizabeth “Girly” on the family farm growing strawberries and catching frogs for his family’s bait shop. In his youth he participated in many jobs including delivering strawberries, setting bowling pins, and working the family farm. Robert, fondly known as Bob to his friends, worked for thirty-three years as a supervisor for the Putnam County highway department. He started a family and lovingly raised five children who in turn gave him twenty-one grandchildren and five great grandchildren with two more on the way. During those years on Teakettle Spout road he was blessed with life long friendships and was surrounded by laughter and joy. He was a lover of sports and enjoyed coaching baseball in his younger days and playing golf. He especially loved horse racing and often would spend the day with family and friends at Saratoga. After retirement he enjoyed many years in the Florida sun but never failed to return to Mahopac to spend quality time with family and friends. He was blessed to be considered a father figure to many and a role model to all.
Robert is survived by his children Robert, Jr. (Wendy), Penny Lee (Chris), Kathleen Gasperino (Michael), and Peter (Lynn). He was predeceased by his son Fred (Deb) in 2018.
Friends and family are welcome to attend a visitation on Wednesday, August 10th from 4-8 PM at the Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 11th at 10AM at St. John The Evangelist Church, also in Mahopac. Private cremation will follow.
