Patrick Gartlan, formally of Carmel, NY, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2021. He was 83 years old. Patrick was raised in Manhattan, NY, after his parents immigrated from Monaghan, Ireland. Early in life, he attended St. Ann’s Academy, where he developed his love of music and drumming. In his youth, he even worked for The Daily News as a copy boy by taking photographs for the publication. Patrick continued his schooling at Manhattan College.
Patrick loved traveling, shopping, a good meal, and held strong ties to his Irish heritage, participating in festivals and Irish dances for many years of his life where he made lifelong friends.
For more than 25 years, Patrick dedicated his life to the FDNY, retiring as a lieutenant. After retirement, he continued his passion for photography by pursuing it professionally. Patrick moved from New York City to Carmel, NY, with Angela Gartlan to raise their three children, where he ran his own photography studio. He was also a member of the National Guard.
He is survived by his three adult children, Sean Gartlan and wife Chrissy Gartlan, Laura Kepler and husband Kenneth Kepler, and Deborah Kivel and husband Michael Kivel. Along with 5 grandchildren, Mallaidh Gartlan, Cara Kepler-Veach, Samantha Kivel, Dylan Kivel, John Marchioni, and Tara Vicario, Patrick is survived by many other additional family members, including great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Patrick was predeceased by his mother and father, Eoin (Owen) and Alice Gartlan, his brother, Eugene Gartlan, and his sister, Maryann (Marion) Richter.
