Lydia E. DaSilva

11/13/1927 – 4/18/2023

Sadly, on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, Lydia E. DaSilva, of Carmel, NY, passed away at the age of 95.

Lydia was born on November 13, 1927 in Guyana to Richard and Virginia (D’Abreu) Goveia. Lydia married the love of her life, Claude DaSilva, on June 7, 1952 in New York. They were blessed with three wonderful children.

Lydia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her family was everything to her and she loved spending time with them. When her children were of school age, she took a job as a NYC school cafeteria aide, which allowed her to see them off to school and be back home before they returned. Over the years she and her husband cared for many of their grandchildren which she enjoyed and loved doing. We will be forever grateful.

Lydia’s favorite pastime was listening to her music. She enjoyed crocheting as well as creating picture albums and looking at all her cherished photos she collected through the years. Another collection of hers was Disney character’s, especially Winnie the Pooh and Friends. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas. She never missed shopping on Black Friday and could shop any one of us under the table, except for her granddaughter, Kim. There were many times that they never came home until well after midnight including this past year. Fridays were enjoyed at the senior citizens program at St. James the Apostle where she enjoyed socializing and playing cards with all her lady friends.

Lydia is predeceased by her beloved husband, Claude who passed away in October of 2005. She is survived by her much loved children, Brian DaSilva, Paul DaSilva and Maureen DaSilva and her nine cherished grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. In 2021, the youngest great-granddaughter was named after her. Her sister, Gloria DeSouza also survives her. She is predeceased by her sister Rita Roche.

She will be sorely missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
