John Patrick Brogan

1/1/1940 – 6/16/2022

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of John Patrick Brogan, age 82 of Mahopac, NY on June 16, 2022.

John was born on January 1, 1940 in Yonkers, NY to the late John and Elizabeth (Slattery) Brogan. He married his beloved wife Martha (Couch) on August 18, 1962 in Norwich, NY. They were blessed with three wonderful children.

John was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He attended high school at Glencliff Academy. He received a Bachelor of Education at Cortland State Teacher College and continued graduate studies at NYU and City College of NY. John earned several Master Degrees and worked as a history Teacher for 37 years in the Yorktown School District. He also Coached many Mahopac Sports Association teams. He Co-Authored a book for teens entitled, A Kids Guide to Divorce. John was a respected CCD instructor, Eucharistic Minister, and loyal parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church. He also was a proud panel member of James Rietz’s Drug Treatment Court in Putnam County.

John is survived by his loving children and grandchildren. Michael Brogan his wife Patricia and their son Mark; Patrick Brogan and his wife Nancy and their children Casey and Tyler; Maureen her husband Kevin Pruner and their children Ryan and Emily. John also leaves behind one brother, Robert Brogan and several nieces and nephews. 

He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him

A Mass of Christian burial to honor and celebrate John’s life will be held at 10:00am, Monday, June 20, 2022 at St. John the Evangelist Church, 221 East Lake Boulevard, Mahopac, NY 10541.

Following Mass, John will be escorted to his final resting place in Raymond Hill Cemetery, Carmel, NY for interment.
