U.S. Veteran
Jamal S. Nesheiwat, the esteemed patriarch of the Nesheiwat family, passed through the gates of Heaven on March 9, 2023. He left this life just as he lived it, with dignity, respect and stature.
He was born on May 22, 1932 to the late Salem and Miriam Nesheiwat. He moved from Yonkers to Carmel in 1969 where he was a parishioner of Saint James the Apostle Church. Jamal is survived by his siblings Jaleleh Nesheiwat of PA and Badia Sawaged of NJ, along with a loving family of cousins, nephews, and nieces. He is predeceased by his brothers Jamil Nesheiwat and Kamal Nesheiwat and his sisters, Jameleh Naber and Seham Salman.
He married the love of his life, Najah Zeidan Nesheiwat, on November 29, 1958 at St. Casmirs Church in Yonkers, NY. She predeceased him in 2010 after 51 beautiful years of marriage. His children’s peace and solace come in knowing he is now in a setting that brought him the most happiness… alongside his wife. They are together again.
Family was of utmost importance to him and he led his with love and morality. He was selfless in his ways and confident in his teachings.
Jamal was a dedicated father, role model and hero to his four children: three sons Dr. Michael Nesheiwat of Carmel & wife Heyam, Dr. James Nesheiwat of Carmel & wife Elisa and Dr. Jeffrey Nesheiwat of Wilton CT & wife Jessica and, in his own words, “my favorite daughter”, Renee Youssef of Carmel & husband Dr. Hanni George Youssef. His joy in life was complimented by his eight grandchildren: Sara, Michael, Steven, Hannah, James and Abigail, Jeffrey and Elaine.
He was a proud member of Croton Lodge #368 Masonic order where he received the Dedicated Service Award and served as RW Grand Master. He also represented NY State as Grand Steward. He was a member of the Shriners Organization, Jesters Club as well as a family member of the local Driscoll Chapter FOP. He wore his Army hat with pride as a U.S. Army veteran.
Jamal was a highly respected gentleman who was a loyal family man and loved life, laughing with his friends, enjoying a fine cigar with his crypt club and he was dedicated to the community he lived in. He will be remembered for his joy, strength, kindness, empathy and generosity.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 13, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cargain Funeral Homes, Inc., 10 Fowler Avenue, Carmel, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial to honor Jamal’s life will commence at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at St. James the Apostle Church, 14 Gleneida Avenue, Carmel, NY. U.S. Military Honors will be given by the Army Honor Guard at St. James after the Mass.
Following the Mass, Jamal will be escorted to his final resting place alongside his beloved wife, Najah, at Raymond Hill Cemetery in Carmel, NY.
