Ella Mae Lorack

1/23/1932 – 9/5/2022

Sadly, on Monday, September 5, 2022, Ella Mae T. Lorack, of Carmel, NY, passed away. She was 90 years old.

Ella Mae was born on January 23, 1932 in Iowa City, Iowa to Melvin and Ella Mae (Peterson) Lorack. She and her parents moved to Los Angeles, California when she was only a few months old. She attended catholic elementary and high school, earned her B.A. and M.A. in Schools Administrations, and received credentials in Elementary, Secondary and Adult Education as well as Elementary and Secondary Administration from Immaculate Heart College.

In 1949, she entered the Sisters of Immaculate Heart where she served, taught and administered in numerous ministries and outreach programs, and in 1980, became Liturgy Director within the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. She remained in this position until 2008, when she moved to New York to be closer to her family.

In 1968, she became an educator and administrator for the Los Angeles County School District in Los Angeles, California. She worked in various positions, teaching and leading both children and adults, and on countless committees, until her retirement in 2003.

She was devoted to the Catholic Church her entire life, most recently as a practicing parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Church in Carmel, New York.

Her beloved sister Mary Louise Dunne, her nieces Kathleen Wiede and Debbi Walsh and nephew Michael Dunne, survive Ella Mae.

A Christian Funeral Mass to honor and celebrate Ella Mae’s life will take place at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 1 Doherty Drive, Carmel, NY.

Following the Mass, Ella Mae will be brought to her final resting place at Raymond Hill Cemetery in Carmel, NY.
