Daniel Moran

8/6/1944 – 4/2/2023

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Daniel Moran, 78, of Kent, NY on April 2, 2023.

Danny was born on August 6, 1944 to John and Catherine (nee Cournane) Moran in Listowel, County Kerry, Ireland. After immigrating to the United States in 1962, he met and married his beloved wife, Mary (“Marie”) McAuliffe, on September 19, 1970 in the Bronx, NY and they were blessed with three wonderful children.

He worked as a carpenter for the Local 608/157 in New York City until he retired. Danny was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother and his family was the most important thing to him. He was incredibly proud of his Irish heritage and he instilled that same pride in his family. He took great care and delight in his vegetable garden, was an Irish Sports enthusiast— watching GAA matches and listening to live international Irish sports broadcasts on WFUV on Sundays. Danny was an avid reader—he especially loved the writing of Magnus Mills and was a regular face at the Kent Library in his retirement. Over the years he developed a real knack for tormenting telemarketers who interrupted him at dinnertime. His other hobby was music, even learning to play his favorite instrument, the accordion. His Catholic faith was very important to him and he was a parishioner and usher for many years at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Carmel.

Danny is predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary, who passed away in 2018. He is also predeceased by eight of his siblings: Mick, Bill, Sean, Mary (Browne), Kit (Blake), Ann (Mahon), Peg (Neville) and Bridie. He is survived by his much-loved children, John Moran, Aileen McKenna and her husband Declan and Daniel (Donal) Moran and his wife, Kerianne. His eight cherished grandchildren, Kieran, Caitlyn, Cara, Jimmy, Andrew, Gianna, Julianne and Owen, all of whom he adored, survive him as well as his lovely sister, Eileen and her husband Michael Slattery. His nephew, Pat Browne who held a special place in his heart, survives him along with many dear nieces and nephews.

He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
